Rox Dar
Rox Dar is a Maitland based artist originally from Wagga Wagga NSW, who moved in 2017 to study a Visual Arts Diploma at Newcastle Art School TAFE to further develop his sculptural pursuits. Self taught up to this point, Rox had been creating sculptures from reclaimed agricultural, mechanical and building materials for nearly 15 years, and gratefully immersed himself in more formal study under the guidance of the likes of John Turier and Braddon Snape. During his first semester of study Rox was invited to exhibit alongside graduating Diploma students, and was delighted to sell a number of pieces. This success, along with prior private commissions and acquisitions of his work, have motivated Rox to start creating pieces on a larger scale, with the goal of public installations in the future. Rox’s fascination with people’s anthropomorphization of his inanimate constructions and the ensuing emotional attachments that viewers project upon them continues to drive his work, as he strives to explore the mechanisms of these relationships and their underlying causes.
