Sculptor Bio

Greg Salter

Greg Salter

Greg Salter has been making sculptures since 1993 when he finished his fine art diploma. He like to use scrap steel as his medium manipulating and shaping it to become a wide variety of animals and birds of many kinds he will also bring to life some of his imagination with creators and caricatures. Greg has lived and worked in the Hunter Valley all his life. The juggle of how to use the steel I have around to make a piece is what my works are for me , using scrap that I've collected and learning how far I can manipulate it but then holding on to part of what it was in its past life, that is making sculpture for me .

Greg Salter grew up in Largs. Drawing and making things out of whatever he could find in the backyard, learning how to use his Dads tools. After high school he attended a fine arts course at Tafe in Newcastle learning about the world of Art and discovering his love of sculpture. His love of animals of all kinds quickly became his inspiration, living around the Maitland area until settling in Telarah where he has his studio to work from.
