Location

The initial shape and colour of the stone plus the ?farm? aspect gave me the inspiration for this seed pod.

However, you are never quite sure what you might find once you start cutting into raw stone so I am very happy with this end result.

Sculptor Bio

Ian Dodd

Ian Dodd

My sculptural journey began in Newcastle back in the late 1990’s. I am predominantly self taught and have found a love of working with stone and or wood.

I tend to work in abstract yet recognisable forms and always try to create tactile pieces that invite the viewer to reach out and touch.

My pieces are generally smaller indoor creations made to connect on a more intimate level and bringing a sense of warmth and joy to whatever space they occupy.

Exhibitions and Commissions

In October 2022 I had a very successful joint exhibition in Bending selling 13 of my 20 pieces plus 7 commissions and my wife and I were instrumental in getting Bendigo Open Studios up and running which continues to this day.

I have been fortunate enough to take out first place at the Newcastle Show sculpture section on 3 separate occasions.

Since moving back to NSW I have sold both my entries at last year’s Sculpture in the Vineyards Wollombi and Sculpture in the Gardens Mudgee.

I have also been invited to hold a one-man show at Rosby Gardens Gallery / Vineyard Mudgee in May 2026.
