Location

Why does everything sound better in Italian?
I find the rich birdlife in Biripi Country inspiring. This piece celebrates Raptors; those astonishingly agile and aerobatic fliers that I often see circling high above our elevated vantage point. I’ve worked on fusing the prominent veins of this Carrara marble and the parallel striations of Darkinjung Sandstone to evoke an air of rapid avian flight such as can be seen in an Australian Peregrine Falcon diving on it’s prey.

Sculptor Bio

Jonathan Foley

Jonathan Foley

In 2022 I established my Manning Valley NSW studio following a 5 year period of sculpture practice in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand.
Prior to setting up these studios I studied for approximately 5 years at the The Tom Bass Sculpture Studio School, Sydney. During my student journey, I gained proficiency in most traditional sculptural mediums.
Since 2010 I have focussed my practice on marble carving and have participated in 5 intensive marble carving workshops with Carrara, Italy-based Master Carver; Alnassar.
