Gavin Vitullo
Gavin Vitullo is a multi-disciplinary Newcastle based artist who studied Fine Arts at Hunter St TAFE and Newcastle University. Gavin is most recognised for his work in sculpture, having been awarded first prize on consecutive occasions in the Newcastle Emerging Artist Prize for sculpture. Gavin has been a finalist in the Gosford Art Prize 5 times and in 2016 he won the Hunter Region Botanical Gardens sculpture prize. In 2017 Gavin s first public sculpture ‘Undercurrent’ was installed at Billy’s Point, Teralba. That same year Gavin was awarded first prize at Sculptures in the Vineyard, Wollombi for his contemplative work ‘Breathe’.
Gavin works out of a studio space at the Creator Incubator in Hamilton North, his poetic practice continues to evolve and develop through a cross pollination of mediums. He has an innate understanding of the natural world and this often resonates through wood, as he combines concept and craftsmanship harmoniously.
