This highly abstracted sculpture represents an eagle in the dramatic moments of capturing a prey mid-flight. The eagle is a highly important and ancient totemic figure of indigenous cultures – hence the sculpture is poised on a tall, weathered steel base to convey these aspects. The quartz gem and use of stainless steel create dramatic contrasts and shadows.

Salvaged steel is used in keeping with my commitment to sustainable art-practice. The sculpture comes with base-plate to mount on a pad.

Sculptor Bio

Laurent Rivory

Laurent Rivory

I'm an emerging artist with a sculpture practice beginning as recently as 2019. Since, I have been mostly experimenting with several styles of steel sculpture using found/recycled steel, largely with waxed and oxidised finishes.

My works are largely abstracted-figurative or abstract. My major influences include David Smith (early works in particular), Anthony Caro and Julio Gonzalez. My works represent a collision between Cubist leanings, a sensitivity to the provenance and innate aesthetics of the steel, a soupçon of humour and his commitment to an environmentally sustainable art practice.
