A ferry trip to the MCA many years ago with young children and two dogs and a then visiting Bilbao a little while later, inspired this work. Seeing Jeff Koons’ mammoth “Puppy” a blend of old and new, was unforgettable. In “Aireplay” the whimsical floral coat is replaced by dyed recycled lace over a steel frame. Koons said his work ‘communicates love, warmth and happiness to everyone’. I hope my work conveys a sense of optimism without being overly sentimental.

Carolyn Rendle
Born in Melbourne and lived and worked in Sydney since 1984. Studied Visual Arts (Sculpture) at Sydney College of the Arts and short courses at National Art School. Recycled materials, especially textiles, form the basis of my studio practice. I have experimented with stitching, dyeing piercing, shrinking and buckling to give a 3D effect.
