Ngatji Blowing a Rainbow | 2018

Rainbow and body in two separate parts. Can be hung on wall or hung from ceiling. Best if hung so there is light shining through the glass.

Rainbow dimensions 122 x 80 cm
Ngatji dimensions 40 x 388 cm The stained glass rainbow and steel Ngatji is a statement of the power of the ancestors and the belief that they will be able to over ride the greed of the cotton growers.

This is the kind of story that is told throughout the colonisation of Barkandji. The message here is cotton growers beware, as our ancestors are powerful!

The stained glass echoes a church window and is also a statement about our sacred ancestors and sacred water and rivers.

A gallery, A game | 2023

‘A gallery, A game’ is inspired by the wooden bead games from childhood. It is both playful and scathing in one. Like in their most recent solo exhibition at Mars, ‘Paths that go where people don’t want them to go’,  Abbey’s interest lies in mimicking what urban designers often do; beautifying the problem. Making comments whilst also making something fun that can engage an audience.

Ngartatja (Black Shag) 1 | 2020

These birds are very special to Barkandji people. The rivers are not the same without them, and they are getting scarcer every year. They are like family, some tell us where the fish are, or tell us if danger is approaching. We listen to them and watch their movements, they let us know what is happening.

Kularku (Brolga) 2 | 2023

Kularku can be dismantled for transportation. Kularku or brolgas are very special to Barkandji people, they are part of our family. They taught us how to dance and they talk to us as they fly over. We protect them from harm and at Toorale National Park we make sure all the management of the park and the water from the Warrego River is designed to help the brolgas

I would like to convey calm, and a feeling of unity with the earth where linear simplicity intersects with the curvature of nature.

Block Puzzle | 2022

This 7 piece puzzle block is cast from 3D printed forms in a method called lost PLA casting. This process allows me to get very precise components that can’t be achieved by traditional methods. And who doesn’t love a puzzle!

Infrastructure | 2023

This work plays with the idea that public art is ‘Infrastructure’ and should be functional whilst being aesthetically pleasing and broadly appealing. This work is part of recent explorations as Abbey seeks to navigate the ego and the well intentioned yet harmful effects that urban planning has on the functionality of public space. The work can be falsely reduced to its aesthetic, when in reality it is a commentary on public and private space.

Tranquility | 2023

I have attempted to capture a deep sense of tranquility in this work depicting the upper body of a male peacefully resting with a relaxed arm poised over the edge.
