To cultivate something is to improve it, develop it, take it to a higher level, whether it is a person, soil, relationship or opinion.
‘Cultivator 5’ is made from found farm machinery and repurposed Oregon timber. It invites interaction in order to work. The timber segments create a visual sense of circular movement and organic form. The form of the metal cogs underneath is repeated in the top centre element.
The latest in a series of machine-like sculptures.

John Lynch
I have a restless curiosity regarding the aesthetic and symbolic power of materials and how they can be used. I believe art has a vital role to play in these times and endeavour to reconnect the audience to the natural world and express ideas regarding humanity, society and particularly the climate emergency.
Although trained as a stone-carver, I work in a wide range of materials including sandstone, marble, timber, bronze, plaster, steel, concrete, paper and at times, found objects and mixed-media.
I have a degree in fine arts, graduate diploma in art education and a graduate certificate in design.
