I’m 77 years old and have been woodworking since retirement. I am also a grandfather. The story of IVF for my daughter is long, and now, a joyful one.
How to represent uplifting joy in wood? The choice of finials worked for me. The finial form is uplifting and difficult to execute.
The timber used is sourced from my bush block.
Of course, there are too many finials on my piece. But, this is not my story but Jessi?s song.

I am compelled to tell a story with my woodwork. My work is always turned on the lathe and then altered to form the final shape.
I live in Medowie . I worked as a Jeweller and Watchmaker. Since retirement, I woodwork full time. I am a long time member of the Port Stephens Woodworkers Club.
Many woodworkers have influenced my woodworking journey. Phil Audet taught me the correct techniques. Benoit Averley said to create something different ‘forget the rules’. And, Joey Richardson advised “if you make a piece, make sure it tells a story”.
