Cinnamon Camphora, Camphor Laurel is an introduced species and a significant environmental weed. Cut from a large block (from the Atherton Tablelands), this Camphor has a fine straight grain, lovely figuring (colour) and was a treat to work.
Gentle curves, crisp edges and a deceptively simple shape turn this ecological pest into an aesthetically pleasing, valued and tactile form.
It was a joy to make !!

I am compelled to tell a story with my woodwork. My work is always turned on the lathe and then altered to form the final shape.
I live in Medowie . I worked as a Jeweller and Watchmaker. Since retirement, I woodwork full time. I am a long time member of the Port Stephens Woodworkers Club.
Many woodworkers have influenced my woodworking journey. Phil Audet taught me the correct techniques. Benoit Averley said to create something different ‘forget the rules’. And, Joey Richardson advised “if you make a piece, make sure it tells a story”.
