This work is an extension of previous sculptures that explores my interest in Soviet Era monuments.

I take the visual language of that art form and put my own spin on the work that also incorporates science fiction and outer space travel.

This work is a symmetrical sculpture that blooms from the ground, and offers the viewer angles and through lines.

Nigel Dobson

I primarily work creating large steel sculpture, however on a number of residencies I have undertaken hollowing out a log to create a canoe form. The main aspect of the work comes in the physical act of removing the core of the log and the process that comes with that.

In the past I have also sent the log out on a body of water and lit a fire in the middle to leave no remaining object, just the remembering of the process in the hand made.
