Indultado | 2023

‘Indultado’ – describes a bull spared the death sentence in the bull fighting ring for displaying great bravery. I’d like to imagine it happens all the time.

Camphor Laurel base is removable. 4 Metal roses are not attached just placed as thrown objects.

White Patterned Cocoon | 2022

As a natural process within the cocoon life transforms. This can relate to us as humans, transforming from the limitations of childhood into an adventurous adult life.

My sculpture symbolises a place of security while changes occur both inside the cocoon and outside of it.
By enlarging the cocoon this gives it greater impact and at the same time it is still seen as a fragile object.

Black Ridged Cocoon | 2022

The structure of cocoons made of wrapped silk, fits with the process of layering the natural fleece in different directions to give my sculpture strength.
My enlarging of the cocoon gives it greater impact and at the same time by contrast, it is still seen as a fragile object.

Possession | 2022

What gap does art fill?  What could “letting go” allow to create?  Why own art?  Do we want to own beauty?

Carnal raw beauty, no glamour, insinuating shapes, cheap materials, modest.

To own the simplicity is my path to be over this dilemma … my yearning to break free from possession.

Tranquility | 2023

I have attempted to capture a deep sense of tranquility in this work depicting the upper body of a male peacefully resting with a relaxed arm poised over the edge.

Yin & Yang | 2019

‘Yin & Yang’ portrays a mother and child absorbed with one another, oblivious to the world around them. The mother encircles and protects her child, her body acting like a cocoon and echoing the theme of a “circle of life”. Inside the circle, the child’s arms create a yin & yang shape that suggests, while fitting together so neatly, there is a force that will inevitably separate the pair as the child grows into adulthood.

It’s a bit windy today | 2022

I could fry an egg on the bonnet of my car.
It’s raining cats and dogs.

If it’s blowing a gale, we may hear, “It’s a bit windy today”.

Three Bag Shelf | 2019

Three delicate miniature bags are in the shape of generic bags.
Copper has been manipulated and coated with vitreous enamel colours. Black cupric oxide, formed on the copper during kiln firing, enlivens their appearance.
The bags are constructed from thin copper to resemble paper. Arranged on a lightweight wooden shelf, they are permanently fixed for protection.

Do not squeeze the bags of thin copper and vitreous enamel ie form of glass, which is a durable surface and may be wiped.

Sculptural vessel number two | 2023

I loved creating this vessel, the slightly twisted form and the extended leaves were extra tricky but fun to accomplish.
Instead of making a vase in the traditional sense, I hoped to create a different and more interesting vessel which in itself has the idea of leaves in the form and enhances the normality straight idea of a vase.

This form has a hint of a woman’s twisting body if seen from different sides .

Threshold | 2023

Observing the movements of the body as it translates emotions, physical impairments, and pain thresholds of our bodily vessel. I primarily utilise materials easily malleable like soft metal rod, the pliable and viscosity of wax and the durability, strength, and the rich earthy tones of bronze. I translate the gestural line and form of the body in motion and express the rhythms that resonate within the form resilience to override adversity.
