I started my sculptural practice with Helen Leete, carving in stone and timber from 1998 till 2000. This work became too hard and difficult for me, so I decided to try and work in clay which was a huge change. I started classes with Barbara Campbell Allen at the Workshop Art Center in Willoughby and after some time found my love for clay developing.  I have been a member of the Sculpture Society since 1998. I grew up in Germany and have always been interested in all forms of art . After my training and working some time in Germany , I came to Australia . Some time later I started to find different artistic outlets until I found out that I could work in the 3 dimensional , carving and sculpting. I am still enjoying this with the help of Natalie Velthuyzen at the Workshop Art Center. I am interested in the Soviet monuments of eastern Europe constructed in the 50’s, 60, and 70’s.  I am drawn to their visual language and extract that to create my own sculptures.  I am also informed by science-fiction and outer space.  This enters my work to lend a futuristic element to my work.  I use Corten steel sheets to construct my sculptures and through cutting and welding, I get voluminous shapes that piece together to form the sculpture. I went to the ANU School of Art and graduated in 2014 with a bachelor of fine art in sculpture. In 2019 I graduated from the National Art School with a Masters degree in Fine Art (Sculpture) I grew up in Canberra and after living in Sydney for a number of years I have moved back to Canberra where my studio is located. Shapes, forms, colours and sounds have stimulated and excited me since early childhood. As a child, the piano was my passion and I advanced rapidly playing mostly classical music. But I discovered that I was uncomfortable playing to an audience, so I turned to art and sculpture. I worked in the corporate sector whilst raising a family and art was a passionate hobby. I gave up corporate work at age 55 and became a full time sculptor working in a variety of materials including stone, metals, timber, glass and ceramics. I operate from a home studio on our hobby farm. 1944 I was born in India and grew up in Kolkata where art and sculpture came to me naturally. I won the art prize each year at school and gave away a lot of my artworks to friends and relatives. 1962 I left India at the age of 17 and lived in London for 6 years where I worked in the corporate sector. It is here that I was drawn to modern art and spent a lot of my time…

My sculptures are informed by situations where the puzzles of life are ever present. Being an optimist my struggle with these challenges often adopts a playful, even whimsical, approach to the subject. The forms are simple and often stylised. My works in timber and bronze engage with the figure while exploring themes of relationships and a sense of self. The bronze works juxtapose highly polished facades with dark textured faces, reflecting life’s differing outlooks and relationships. Recent explorations in the Augmented Reality realm provide new challenges. I seek to provide an insight into the soul, capturing for the viewer an emotion they feel or have felt or indeed would like to feel.
